Content Moderation Policy
Keeping our platform a safe and respectful space.
Last updated: June 2026
Overview
Cherished Book is a place for memorialisation and celebration. To maintain the dignity of these spaces, all user-generated content is subject to this Content Moderation Policy. For guidance on appropriate behavior and cultural sensitivity, please also read our Community Guidelines.
Prohibited Content
The following content is strictly prohibited and will be removed:
- Hate Speech: Content that promotes violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on attributes such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Harassment: Content that targets individuals with the intent to bully, intimidate, or threaten.
- Illegal Activities: Content that promotes or depicts illegal activities, including but not limited to drug trafficking, child exploitation, and copyright infringement.
- Spam: Commercial solicitation, unsolicited advertising, or irrelevant repetitive content.
Moderation Process
We employ a hybrid approach to content moderation:
- Automated Review: As outlined in our AI Statement, we use a private, in-house AI model to help filter out inappropriate content and spam upon submission.
- Human Oversight: All automated moderation decisions, and all user reports, are reviewed by us.
- User Reporting: Users may report content they believe violates this policy using the tools provided on the platform. Reported content is prioritized for review.
Geographic Considerations
Laws regarding content can vary significantly by region. Our moderation practices take into account local laws and cultural norms, and we comply with applicable legal requirements globally.
Enforcement Actions
Violations of this policy may result in actions including, but not limited to:
- Removal of the specific content.
- Temporary suspension of the user account.
- Permanent account bans for severe or repeated offenses.
Users will be notified of any actions taken against their content or account, along with the reasons for such actions.
Data Deletion Policies
User-Initiated Memorial Deletion (30-Day Policy)
Owners can manually disable a memorial at any time via their settings. Once disabled, a 30-day countdown begins before permanent deletion. During this time, the memorial can be re-enabled. After 30 days, the memorial, its media, and all associated data are permanently and irretrievably deleted.
Account Deletion
A user can delete their account from their profile settings. We email a code to confirm the request, then run the deletion after a 28-day cooling-off period that can be cancelled at any time using the link in the emails we send. When it completes, memorials the user alone owns are permanently deleted. Co-owned memorials remain active, with the deleting user removed as an owner. For contributions (like photos or messages) the user made to memorials they do not solely own, the user chooses at the point of deletion whether their name is removed (the contribution is kept for that memorial's family) or the contribution is deleted entirely. Some records may be kept where the law requires it, such as financial records for tax.
