We understand that loss is one of life's most challenging experiences. Cherished Book was created to provide families with a dignified, permanent way to honour their loved ones while bringing together people from across the world to share in remembrance and celebration.
Our story
Cherished Book began with my father.
He died during the pandemic. Like so many families then, we couldn't gather. We're spread across different cities and countries, and the people who loved him had no way to stand together and grieve. Everyone was left holding their memories alone, on their own phones, in their own heads.
I went looking for one place to bring it all together. Somewhere everyone could add their memories and photographs, that would last for years, and that honoured our faith and the way we grieve as a Muslim family. I couldn't find it. The memorial sites I tried felt like social media: busy, public, and never quiet enough for remembrance. We're a private family, and putting my father's life on display for anyone to see felt wrong. We wanted to decide who saw what, and to keep it ours.
There was something else, too. In those first raw days, none of us knew what to say. Finding the right words for a father, a husband, a friend is hard at the best of times, and these were not the best of times. We came to see AI as a gentle helper here. A partner that offers a starting point you can shape into your own words, never something that speaks over you.
And while we were grieving, the last thing any of us wanted was to build a website. No complicated tools, no setup, nothing to work out. We needed something simple and calm that stayed out of the way and let us remember him.
We built it. Private by default, safe, and never noisy. A place that lets each family grieve in its own way, in keeping with its own traditions. Everything you add stays yours. It belongs to your family, not to us, and you can download all of it whenever you like. More than anything, that is what makes this different from a social network.
We're a small family business in Coventry, and we made Cherished Book for families like ours, of every faith and none.
